This is a really wonderful sounding, playing, and looking 1968 Epiphone Rivoli EB232 Semi-Hollow Bass Guitar! This bass has low action & a great sounding thuddy pickup. The "cut" switch is currently not hooked up so only the volume and tone work.
This bass has a bit of weirdness to it in that, the body has a Gibson EB-2 Orange Label but yet the rest of the bass indicates an Epiphone Rivoli, which would have had a Blue Epiphone label of that era. To add to the weirdness the serial numbers match up on the Gibson Label & the Headstock Serial Number. All other factors indicate that this is an Epiphone therefore it is priced as such. The best guess for this mishap is that POSSIBLY the neck was replaced at some point with an Epiphone neck back in the day. The joint does look non-original and like it has been replaced but this all assumption. The pots have been checked but seem to date to 1981, so they've been replaced!
The bass is dated using the Gibson Serial Number system and it came to 1968 but this seems to be an early 1968 as it has the non-adjustable bridge, to which they switched to adjustable in Spring of 1968.
The case is an era correct Gibson Purple Lined Hard Case & the bass comes with the original mute. We do not have the chrome plate that is often seen mounted between the pickup & bridge. We have reached out to Gibson for any answers on this bass & this will be updated as soon as anything is found out but for now you can get a great deal on a vintage instrument!
